As the weather heats up, so does the pressure to get your body right for the summer. The phrase “summer body” surrounds us online and in person as people try every year to plan how they can look their best during the summer. In order to realistically measure your success, it’s important to set goals.
In the early stages, set goals and find a friend or loved one to hold you accountable for those goals. Whether you want to work out 2 or 3 times a week or lose 10 pounds by a certain date, it’s better to set clear goals. It’s easier to measure going to the gym a specific number of times rather a promise to simply workout more. This is why goals are best when they’re time and number specific.
Goals help us focus on what we’d like to change and how to realistically change or adjust for our betterment. It also helps us map out the obstacles in the way of reaching specific marks and things that we can use to our benefit.
Sure, you can just go to the gym and start working out, but if you don’t have something specific to work towards it won’t be hard to lose enthusiasm. It’s important to also remember that a healthy summer body doesn’t look the same for everyone. Setting the same goals as others may create extra stress that can hinder your progress. Know your body type, nutritional needs, and consider limitations and factor all of those things into your goal planning.
